About the Artist

Debra Bridgman - Biography

Debra Bridgman is a Canadian artist living in Barrie, Ontario. She completed her working career as an educator in First Nation schools in Ontario and the Northwest Territories in 2019. She is following her life-long passion for creative artistic expression, first in music, and now as an artist working in acrylic, watercolour, and pen and ink sketching.

Art with a Sense of Wonder
Debra’s art is inspired by the legacy of the Group of Seven and by contemporary artists who reimagine the Canadian landscape with fresh eyes. Drawn to nature and its intersections with cultural heritage, she often paints places where people are active, joyful, and connected with their surroundings. She’s especially intrigued by landscapes with unique features—always wondering, what’s the story here?

Her style blends expressive brushwork with subtle precision, using colour and value to suggest form and shape while offering fine details that invite closer observation. This balance creates space for the viewer’s imagination, encouraging not just a visual experience, but a sense of belonging within the scene.

Debra’s hope is that each piece offers the viewer a moment of wonder—as if they’ve stumbled upon a place that feels both deeply personal and universally meaningful.
